Simon J. Schermerhorn

Simon Jacob Schermerhorn (born September 25, 1827 in Rotterdam , New York , † July 21, 1901 there ) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1895 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Simon Jacob Schermerhorn attended community schools. Then he went to agricultural activities. In 1856 he was a supervisor in the town of Rotterdam. Schermerhorn served two terms as School Commissioner . He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1862 and 1865 . He was also a director and trustee in local banks. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1892 congressional elections for the 53rd Congress , Schermerhorn was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 21st  constituency of New York , where he succeeded John M. Wever on March 4, 1893 . Since he on a run again in 1894 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1895 Congress of.

After his congress time he returned to his farm in Rotterdam, where he died on July 21, 1901. His body was buried in Viewland Cemetery .
