George Murray Hulbert (born May 14, 1881 in Rochester , New York , † April 26, 1950 in Bayport , New York, sometimes also Murray Hulbert ) was an American lawyer and politician and MP in the United States House of Representatives for the state of New York. He later became a federal judge .

biography

Hulbert was born in Rochester on May 14, 1881, but grew up in Waterloo , where he also went to school. He graduated from New York Law School . He was admitted to the bar in 1902 and then practiced in New York City .

As a member of the Democratic Party , he was elected to the 64th Congress of the United States in the fall of 1914 and to the 65th Congress of the United States two years later , so that he was from March 4, 1915 to January 1, 1918 the United House of Representatives States belonged to. He gave up his parliamentary career to become Commissioner of Docks and Director of the Port of New York City.

In November 1921, he was elected to the city's Board of Aldermen , representing Mayor John Francis Hylan during his long illness. After the end of his political career, Hulbert became President of the Boston, Cape Cod & New York Canal Company and again worked as a lawyer until he was appointed District Judge at the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York from President Franklin D. Roosevelt in June 1934 was appointed. Hulbert held this position until his death in Bayport on Long Island on April 26, 1950.

Hulbert was buried in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne , New York.
