Hiram Walden

Hiram Walden (born August 21, 1800 in Pawlet , Vermont , † July 21, 1880 in Waldenville , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1849 and 1851 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Hiram Walden attended district schools. In 1818 he moved to Berne in Albany County and in 1821 from there to Waldenville in Schoharie County . Walden pursued the manufacture of axes. He was a major general in the militia . In 1836 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . He 1842 was a supervisor in the Town of Wright . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1848 congressional elections for the 31st Congress , Walden was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 21st  constituency of New York , where he succeeded George A. Starkweather on March 4, 1849 . Since he on a run again in 1850 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1851 Congress of. During this time he chaired the Committee on Patents .

After his time at Congress, he resumed his previous business activities. He also worked in the customs office in New York City . He spent his retirement in Waldenville until his death on July 21, 1880 and was then buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Berne.
