Judson Allen

Judson Allen (born April 6, 1797 in Plymouth , Connecticut , † August 6, 1880 in St. Louis , Missouri ) was an American businessman, lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Judson Allen attended public schools in Connecticut and then traded wood there. He later moved to Harpursville (formerly Harpersville ) in Broome County , New York . There he was appointed postmaster on March 19, 1830 , a position he held until November 20, 1839. During this time he was a judge at Broome County Court for eight years and a member of the New York State Assembly between 1836 and 1837 . Allen then represented the 20th constituency of New York in the 26th US Congress , where he served between March 4, 1839 and March 3, 1841. He decided against running again in 1840 and moved to St. Louis, Missouri after the end of his term in the US House of Representatives . Everyone there was engaged in the cultivation of agricultural products and traded in wood, marble and food. He died on August 6, 1880 and was buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery .
