Charles Knapp (born October 8, 1797 in Colchester , New York , † May 14, 1880 in Deposit , New York) was an American politician . Between 1869 and 1871 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives . Congressman Charles J. Knapp was his son.

Career

Charles Knapp was first homeschooled and later attended community schools. After that he worked in agriculture. He taught at a school in Delaware County . In 1825 he went about commercial business. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1841 . In 1848 he moved to Deposit in Delaware County, where he founded a bank in 1854, of which he then became president. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the 1868 congressional elections for the 41st Congress , Fields was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 19th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded William C. Fields on March 4, 1869 . Since he on a run again in 1870 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1871 Congress of.

After his time at Congress he went back to his banking business. He died on May 14, 1880 in Deposit and was buried in Laurel Bank Cemetery .
