John Emory Andrus

John Emory Andrus (born February 16, 1841 in Pleasantville , New York , † December 26, 1934 in Yonkers , New York) was an American politician . Between 1905 and 1913 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Emory Andrus was born in Westchester County about five years before the outbreak of the Mexican-American War . He attended local schools and Charlotteville Seminary in Schoharie County . In 1862 he graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown ( Connecticut ). He taught at a school in New Jersey for four years . Then he went to the manufacture of medicines in Yonkers. He was president of the New York Pharmaceutical Association and the Palisade Manufacturing Co. of Yonkers in Westchester County. He also held the post of curator at Wesleyan University. In 1903 he was mayor of Yonkers. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the 1904 congressional election for the 59th Congress , Andrus was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 19th constituency of New York , where he succeeded Norton P. Otis on March 4, 1905 . He was re-elected three times in a row. Since it to a re-election bid in 1912 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1913 Congress of.

After his time at Congress, he resumed his previous business activities in Yonkers, which he carried out there until his death on December 26, 1934. He was then buried in the Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla .
