John Faso
John Faso (* 25. August 1952 on Long Iceland , New York ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . From 2017 to 2019 he represented the 19th Congressional constituency of the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .
Career
After high school, John Faso studied until 1974 at Brockport College, which is part of the State University of New York . Between 1975 and 1979 he studied law at Georgetown University . From 1979 to 1981 he was employed as a Professional Staff Member in the administration of the US House of Representatives and from 1981 to 1983 he worked for the Washington Liaison Office of the New York Senate . After that he was employed by the Bill Drafting Commission until 1986 . In 1987 he was an advisor to the law firm Rapport, Meyers, Whitbeck, Shaw, and Rodenhausen . Since 2003 he has been a partner at Manatt, Phelps and Phillips, LLP .
Faso is married and has two grown children. He lives in Kinderhook .
Between 1986 and 2002, Faso was a member of the New York State Assembly . In 1994/95 he was a member of the transition team of the elected Governor George Pataki . He held a number of political offices in the city of Buffalo and ran unsuccessfully for governor of his state in 2006.
In the 2016 election , Faso was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 19th Congressional district of New York against Democrat Zephyr Teachout , where he succeeded Chris Gibson , who no longer ran in 2016, on January 3, 2017 . In the 2018 election, he was defeated by Democrat Antonio Delgado with 46.1 to 51.4 percent of the vote, after polls had indicated an open election. The rural constituency, which has existed in its current form since 2011, had always been in Republican hands, but was considered one of the main goals of the Democrats in the 2018 election. Faso resigned from Congress on January 3, 2019.
