George W. Chase

George William Chase (* 1802 in Maryland , New York , † April 17, 1867 in Chaseville , New York) was an American politician . Between 1853 and 1855 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George William Chase was born in Maryland, Otsego County , in the early 19th century . He attended community schools. After that he worked in agriculture. In addition, he pursued commercial and grinding business in Schenevus . Politically, he was a member of the Whig Party . In the 1852 congressional elections for the 33rd Congress , Chase was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 19th  electoral district of New York , where he succeeded Willard Ives on March 4, 1853 . He retired from the after March 3, 1855 Congress of. After his time at the Congress he went back to his previous activities in agriculture, but also pursued his business activities. He died on April 17, 1867 in Chaseville, Maryland Township and was buried in the crypt of the Chase family in the cemetery of the same name in Schenevus. At that point the civil war had ended for about two years.
