Oliver A. Morse

Oliver Andrew Morse (born March 26, 1815 in Cherry Valley , New York , † April 20, 1870 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1857 and 1859 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Oliver Andrew Morse was born in Cherry Valley, Otsego County , about five weeks after the end of the British-American War . He studied classical studies and graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton in 1833 . Then he studied law . After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in Cherry Valley. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the 1856 congressional election for the 35th Congress , Morse was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 19th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded Jonas A. Hughston on March 4, 1857 . Since he on a run again in 1858 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1859 Congress of.

After his time at the congress he worked as a writer and interpreter. He died on April 20, 1870 in New York City and was buried in Cherry Valley in the cemetery of the same name.
