James C. Healey

James Christopher Healey (born December 24, 1909 in New York City , † December 16, 1981 in Southampton , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1956 and 1965 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Christopher Healey was born in the Bronx about five years before the outbreak of World War I. He attended public schools in New York City. In 1933 he made his Bachelor of Science at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania . Then he attended Fordham University . In 1936 he made his Bachelor of Laws at St. John's University Law School. He was admitted to the bar in New York in 1937. Between 1938 and 1940 he was Attorney for the New York State Labor Relations Board and between 1940 and 1943 Deputy United States Attorney for the southern district of New York. During the Second World War he served as a lieutenant in the US Navy between 1943 and 1946 . He was then Deputy Corporation Counsel in New York City between 1946 and 1948 . Between 1948 and 1956 he held the post of Counsel to the Borough President of the Bronx. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

He was elected to the 84th Congress in a by-election in the 22nd  constituency of New York to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Sidney A. Fine . He took up his seat in the US House of Representatives on February 7, 1956. In the 1956 congressional elections , he was elected to the 85th Congress . He was re-elected twice in a row. In 1962 he ran in the 21st electoral district of New York for the 88th Congress . After a successful election, he succeeded Herbert Zelenko on January 4, 1963 . He suffered for his re-election bid in 1964 , a defeat and resigned after the January 3, 1965 Congress of. During his congressional time, he participated as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in Chicago and Los Angeles in 1956, 1960 and 1968 .

He moved to Southampton, where he died on December 16, 1981. His body was then interred in Sacred Heart Cemetery .
