Anthony Jerome Griffin (born April 1, 1866 in New York City , † January 13, 1935 ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1918 and 1935 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Anthony Jerome Griffin attended public schools, City College , Cooper Union, and New York University Law School. After receiving his license to practice bar in 1892, he began practicing in New York City. After the outbreak of the Spanish-American War , he set up Company F of the 69th  Regiment of the New York Volunteer Infantry and commanded it in 1898 and 1899. He founded the Bronx Independent in 1905 and worked there as an editor until 1907. Between 1911 and 1915 he was a member of the New York Senate . In 1915 he took part in the New York Constituent Assembly . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

He was elected to the 65th Congress in a by-election in the 22nd  constituency of New York to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Henry Bruckner . He took his seat in the US House of Representatives on March 5, 1918. In the 1918 congressional elections , he was elected to the 66th Congress . Griffin was re-elected eight times in a row.

He died on January 13, 1935 in New York City and was then buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
