Nathaniel Garrow

Nathaniel Garrow (born April 25, 1780 in Barnstable , Massachusetts , † March 3, 1841 in Auburn , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1827 and 1829 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Nathaniel Garrow was born in Barnstable County during the Revolutionary War . He attended public schools. Then he went to sea. In 1796 he moved to Auburn. He was appointed justice of the peace in 1809. Between 1815 and 1819 and between 1821 and 1825 he was sheriff in Cayuga County . Politically, he belonged to the Jacksonian faction.

In the congressional elections of 1826 for the 20th Congress Garrow was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 24th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Charles Kellogg on March 4, 1827 . He retired from the after March 3, 1829 Congress of.

Garrow became US Marshal for the Northern District of New York in February 1837 - a post he held until his death in March 1841. He died on March 3, 1841 in Auburn. His body was buried in the family cemetery on his estate, but was later reburied in Fort Hill Cemetery in Aubrun.
