Louis W. Emerson

Louis Woodard Emerson (born July 25, 1857 in Warrensburg , New York , † June 10, 1924 there ) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1903 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Louis Woodard Emerson was born in Warren County about four years before the outbreak of the Civil War . He attended district school and then graduated from Warrensburg Academy . He then went into lumber and banking business, but also worked as a manufacturer. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . He sat in the New York Senate between 1890 and 1893 . He also took part in 1888, 1892 and 1896 as a delegate to the Republican National Conventions .

In the 1898 congressional elections for the 56th Congress , Emerson was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 23rd  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Wallace T. Foote junior on March 4, 1899 . He was re-elected once and then retired from Congress after March 3, 1903 .

After his time at the congress he resumed his previous business activities in Warrensburg. He died there about six years after the end of the First World War . His body was buried in the city cemetery.
