Justin Dwinell

Justin Dwinell (born October 28, 1785 in Shaftsbury , Vermont , † September 17, 1850 in Cazenovia , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1823 and 1825 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Justin Dwinell was born in Bennington County about two years after the American Revolutionary War ended . He attended local private schools and Williams College in Williamstown . In 1808 he graduated from Yale College . He studied law . After receiving his license to practice law in 1811, he began practicing in Cazenovia. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1821 and 1822 .

As a result of a fragmentation of the Democratic Republican Party before and during the presidency of John Quincy Adams (1825-1829), he joined the Crawford faction. In the 1822 congressional elections for the 18th Congress , Dwinell was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 22nd constituency of New York , where he became the first representative of the district in the US House of Representatives on March 4, 1823 .
