Albert Duane Shaw (born December 21, 1841 in Lyme , New York , † February 10, 1901 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1900 and 1901 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Albert Duane Shaw was born in Jefferson County about five years before the outbreak of the Mexican-American War . He attended Belleville Academy , Union Academy, and St. Lawrence University in Canton . After the outbreak of the civil war , he enlisted in June 1861 as a private member of Company A of the 35th  regiment of the New York Volunteers . In 1863 he was appointed Special Counsel in the US Department of War , stationed at Provost Marshals Headquarters in Watertown , where he served until the end of the war. In 1866 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . It was in 1867 to Colonel in the 36th Regiment of the New York National Guard appointed, however, came in 1868 back to the post as US consul in Toronto ( Canada ) to compete. In 1878 he was appointed US consul in Manchester ( Great Britain ). He was elected Department Commander in the Grand Army of the Republic of New York in 1896 and unanimously in 1899 as Commander in Chief of the National Camp.

Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . He was elected to the 56th Congress in a by-election in the 24th  constituency of New York to fill the vacancy created by the death of Charles A. Chickering . He took his seat in the US House of Representatives on November 6, 1900. He was elected to the 57th Congress in the 1900 congressional elections, but died on February 10, 1901 before the end of the 56th Congress. His body was buried in Brookside Cemetery in Watertown.
