Bennet Bicknell

Bennet Bicknell (born November 14, 1781 in Mansfield , Connecticut , † September 15, 1841 in Morrisville , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1837 and 1839 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Bennet Bicknell was born in Tolland County during the War of Independence . He attended public schools. In 1808 he moved to Morrisville. He served in the army during the British-American War . He sat in the New York State Assembly in 1812 and in the New York Senate between 1814 and 1818 . Between 1821 and 1825 he was a clerk in Madison County . He then worked as an editor for the Madison Observer . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1836 congressional elections for the 25th Congress , Bicknell was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 23rd  constituency of New York , where he succeeded William K. Fuller on March 4, 1837 . In 1838 he suffered a defeat in his re-election and resigned from Congress on March 3, 1839 .

He died in Morrisville about five years before the outbreak of the Mexican-American War . His body was then interred in the Morrisville Rural Cemetery .
