Anthony Brindisi
Anthony Joseph Brindisi (born November 22, 1978 in Utica , Oneida County , New York ) is an American politician . He has represented New York State in the US House of Representatives since January 2019 .
Career
First, Anthony Brindisi, whose mother died when he was four, attended Mohawk Valley Community College . However, he graduated from high school in 2000 at the Catholic Siena College in Loudonville , a suburb of Albany . He then studied at Albany Law School until 2004 and then joined the law firm his father founded.
In a by-election in September 2011 , Brindisi, a member of the Democratic Party , was elected to the New York State Assembly against Republican Gregory Johnson . In the regular elections in 2012, 2014 and 2016, he was re-elected with no opposing candidates. In 2013, he voted against the NY SAFA Act, a gun control law passed in response to the December 2012 rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School .
In the 2018 congressional elections , Brindisi ran in the 22nd constituency of New York against the previous Republican incumbent Claudia Tenney and was elected with a lead of 1,293 votes. In his election campaign he was supported by Tenney's predecessor Richard L. Hanna , although he was himself a Republican.
