Andrew Zimmerman McCarty (born July 14, 1808 in Rhinebeck , New York , † April 23, 1879 in Pulaski , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1855 and 1857 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Andrew Zimmerman McCarty was born in Dutchess County about four years before the outbreak of the British-American War . He studied law . After receiving his license to practice law in 1831, he began practicing in Pulaski. Between 1840 and 1843 he was a county clerk in Oswego County . He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1846 and 1847 . Politically, he belonged to the opposition party .

In the 1854 congressional elections for the 34th Congress , McCarty was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 22nd constituency of New York , where he succeeded Henry C. Goodwin on March 4, 1855 . He retired from the after March 3, 1857 Congress of.

After his congress time, he went back to his work as a lawyer in Pulaski. Between 1875 and 1879 he served as the Register of Bankruptcy . He died in Pulaski on April 23, 1879 and was buried in the city cemetery.
