Sidney A. Fine

Sidney Asher Fine (born September 14, 1903 in New York City , † April 23, 1982 ibid) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1951 and 1956 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Sidney Asher Fine attended public schools. He graduated from City College of New York in 1923 and from Columbia University's law school in 1926 . After receiving his bar license in 1926, he began practicing in New York City. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1945 and 1946 and in the New York Senate between 1947 and 1950 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1950 congressional elections for the 82nd Congress , Fine was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 23rd  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Walter A. Lynch on January 4, 1951 . In 1952 he ran in the 22nd electoral district of New York for the 83rd Congress . After a successful election, he succeeded Adam Clayton Powell junior on January 4, 1953 . He was re-elected once, but resigned from his seat in Congress on January 2, 1956 .

Between 1956 and 1975 he was a judge on the New York Supreme Court . He lived in New York City until his death on April 23, 1982. His body was then interred in the Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens .
