Samuel Partridge
Samuel Partridge (born November 29, 1790 in Norwich , Vermont , † March 30, 1883 in Elmira , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1841 and 1843 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Samuel Partridge was born in Windsor County about seven years after the War of Independence ended . He received a modest education. During the British-American War he enlisted as a private member of the Vermont militia . He was later promoted to captain in the US Army Corps of Engineers in the regular army. He served two terms as high sheriff in Windsor County. In 1820 he moved to New York, where he did business in Cold Spring . He moved to Chemung County in 1830 and to Elmira in 1837. During the whole time he pursued commercial business. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .
In the 1840 congressional elections for the 27th Congress , Partridge was elected to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 22nd constituency of New York , where he succeeded Amasa Dana and Stephen B. Leonard on March 4, 1841 , who previously together represented the 22nd district in the US House of Representatives. He retired from the after March 3, 1843 Congress of.
After his time at Congress, he pursued agricultural activities and real estate business. He died in Elmira on March 30, 1883 and was buried in Second Street Cemetery .
