William H. Baker

William Henry Baker (born January 17, 1827 in Lenox , New York , † November 25, 1911 in Constantia , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1875 and 1879 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Henry Baker was born in Madison County in 1827 . The family moved to Oswego County in 1829 . He attended community schools as well as the Red Creek Academy and the Mexico Academy . Then he studied law . After receiving his license to practice bar in Syracuse in November 1851 , he began practicing in Cleveland . He moved to Constantia, Oswego County, in 1853. In January 1863, he became a district attorney in Oswego County - a post he held until January 1870. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1874 for the 44th Congress , Baker was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 24th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded R. Holland Duel on March 4, 1875 . He was re-elected once. Since it to a re-election bid in 1878 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1879 Congress of. In 1884 he took part as a delegate to the New York Constituent Assembly . Then he worked in agriculture. He died in Constantia about three years before the outbreak of World War I and was then buried in Trinity Church Cemetery .
