John M. Wever

John Madison Wever (born February 24, 1847 in Ganges Township , Michigan , † September 27, 1914 in Plattsburgh , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1895 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Madison Wever was born in Allegan County during the Mexican-American War . He attended community schools and Albion College . During the Civil War , he enlisted in the US Army at the age of 16 . He served in the Army of the Cumberland and the Army of the Ohio . After the end of the war, he settled in Plattsburgh, Clinton County , where he did banking. He was elected County Treasurer for Clinton County in 1884 and re-elected in 1887. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the 1890 congressional election for the 52nd Congress , Wever was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 21st  constituency of New York , where he succeeded John H. Moffitt on March 4, 1891 . In 1892 he ran in the 23rd constituency of New York for the 53rd Congress . After a successful election, he succeeded Henry Wilbur Bentley on March 4, 1893 . Since he on a run again in 1894 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1895 Congress of.

After his time in Congress, he served as the cashier and later president of the Merchants' National Bank of Plattsburgh. He died on September 27, 1914 in Plattsburgh and was then buried in Riverside Cemetery .
