George A. Starkweather

George Anson Starkweather (born May 19, 1794 in Preston , Connecticut , † October 15, 1879 in Cooperstown , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1847 and 1849 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Anson Starkweather attended community schools and graduated from Union College in Schenectady in 1819 . He studied law . After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in Cooperstown. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the 1846 congressional election for the 30th Congress , Starkweather was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 21st  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Charles Goodyear on March 4, 1847 . He retired from the after March 3, 1847 Congress of. Between 1853 and 1868 he was inMilwaukee ( Wisconsin ) worked as a lawyer. He died on October 15, 1879 in Cooperstown and was buried in Lakewood Cemetery .
