Isaac Finch

Isaac Finch (born October 13, 1783 in Stillwater , New York , † June 23, 1845 in Jay , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1829 and 1831 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Isaac Finch was born in Stillwater, Saratoga County , about a month after the War of Independence . The family moved to Peru in Clinton County in 1787 . He attended public schools. Then he studied law , but did not practice extensively as a lawyer. He then settled with Jay in Essex County , where he worked in agriculture. During the British-American War he served as a major in the 26th  Infantry Regiment . Between 1822 and 1824 he was a member of the New York State Assembly .

As a result of a fragmentation of the Democratic Republican Party before and during the presidency of John Quincy Adams (1825-1829), he joined the anti-Jacksonian faction . In the 1828 congressional election for the 21st Congress , Finch was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 19th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded Richard Keese on March 4, 1829 . Since he on a run again in 1830 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1831 Congress of.

After his time at the congress he was back in agriculture. He died in Jay on June 23, 1845 and was buried in Central Cemetery .
