Nicholas T. Kane

Nicholas T. Kane (born September 12, 1846 in County Waterford , Ireland , † September 14, 1887 in Albany , New York ) was an American politician . In 1887 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Nicholas Thomas Kane was born in County Waterford during the Victorian Age . His family immigrated to the United States during his childhood and settled in Albany. There he attended community schools. He enlisted in the Union Army in 1863 during the civil war and served there until 1865. After that, he pursued commercial activities. Between 1883 and 1885 he represented Watervliet on the Albany County Board of Supervisors . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1886 congressional elections for the 50th Congress , Kane was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 19th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded John Swinburne on March 4, 1887 . However, he died before the end of his service on September 14, 1887 in Albany and was buried in St. Agnes Cemetery in Colonie .
