John Hall

John Joseph Hall (born July 23, 1948 in Baltimore , Maryland ) is an American musician and politician of the Democratic Party and was from 2007 to 2011 a member of the United States House of Representatives for the state of New York .

biography

Hall was born in Baltimore. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Elmira in 1965 . Then he was a student at the University of Notre Dame , before he dropped out of his education there and became a musician. Among other things, he worked with Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt . In 1972 he founded his band, which was called Orleans . In 1977 he began a solo career and two years later he joined the Musicians United for Safe Energy (along with Tom Petty , Bruce Springsteen and others). He then worked as a songwriter for other musicians. On May 3, 2009, he performed at Madison Square Garden at the celebration of Pete Seeger's 90th birthday .

John Hall was elected to the US House of Representatives in 2007 to represent New York's 19th  Congressional District. He is the successor to Sue W. Kelly . The district includes parts of Dutchess , Orange , Rockland and Westchester Counties, as well as all of Putnam County . Most recently he was a member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure , the Committee on Veterans' Affairs and the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming . In the 2008 election he was able to defend his seat against Republican Kieran Lalor . He lost his seat in the 2010 election to Republican Nan Hayworth .

John Hall is married to Pamela Hall and lives in Dover Plains . He is of the Roman Catholic faith .
