Edward Wemple (born October 23, 1843 in Fultonville , New York , † December 18, 1920 there ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1885 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Wemple was born in Montgomery County about three years before the outbreak of the Mexican-American War . He attended community schools in Fultonville and the Ashland Academy in Greene County . In 1866 he graduated from Union College in Schenectady . He studied law for a while. Then he went about the foundry business . He was president of the Village of Fultonville in 1873. In 1874 he became supervisor of Glen - a post he held until 1876. He sat in the New York State Assembly in 1877 and 1878 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1882 congressional elections for the 48th Congress , Wemple was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 20th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Republican George West on March 4, 1883 . After an unsuccessful attempt at re-election in 1884 for the 49th Congress , he left the Congress after March 3, 1885 .

After his time at Congress, he resumed his previous business activities. In 1885 he was a member of the New York Senate . He was elected New York State Comptroller in 1887 - a position he held two terms. Another candidacy failed. He died on December 18, 1920 in Fultonville and was then buried in Maple Avenue Cemetery .
