John C. Wright

John Calvin Wright (* 1801 in Greene , New York , † January 24, 1862 in Schenectady , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

John Calvin Wright, son of Sarah Treadway (1765-1839) and Calvin Wright (1770-1843), was born in 1801 in Chenango County . His youth were overshadowed by the British-American War . In 1820 he graduated from Union College in Schenectady, New York. He studied law and began practicing as a lawyer in Esperance, New York after receiving his license . On December 5, 1833, he married Louisa Marsh (1812-1843). He was First Judge in Schoharie County from 1838 to 1843 . His tenure was overshadowed by the economic crisis of 1837 . Wright served in the New York Senate (66th to 69th  New York State Legislature ) from 1843 to 1846 . After the death of his first wife, he married Caroline Frost (1806–1846) in February 1844. After the end of his tenure in the New York Senate, he moved to Schenectady. The following years were overshadowed by the Mexican-American War . After the death of his second wife, he married Sarah Brown (Worcester) Bouck (1819-1859) on June 7, 1847. In the 1851 election he was elected New York State Comptroller - a post he held from 1852 to 1853. He died in Schenectady during the Civil War in 1862 and was buried in the Esperance cemetery.
