James A. Wendell

James Augustus Wendell (born January 1, 1869 in Fort Plain , New York , † May 10, 1922 in Albany , New York) was an American politician ( Republican Party ).

Career

Nothing is known about the youth of James Augustus Wendell. He studied for a while Jura , the study broke off though. Instead, he worked as a clerk at Fort Plain National Bank. In 1894, he began working for the New York State Comptroller , which he did for the rest of his life. For ten years he was Deputy Comptroller. In the 1920 elections he was elected New York State Comptroller.

In 1920, his predecessor Eugene M. Travis , Wendell, and bond broker Albert L. Judson were charged with aggravated theft. It was listed that Travis, as the New York State Comptroller, and Wendell, as the Deputy Comptroller, had purchased bonds from Judson at prices above market value for the State Sinkung Fund, a loss of $ 230,000  to the state. The charges were dismissed in October 1921 due to a lack of evidence of criminal intent.

He later died as a result of apoplexy .
