Joseph V. O'Leary
Joseph Vincent O'Leary (born December 13, 1890 in New York City , † December 29, 1964 ) was an American politician .
Career
Nothing is known about the youth of Joseph Vincent O'Leary. He was a member of the American Labor Party . In 1938 he ran for the post of Attorney General of New York, but suffered a defeat to the Democrat John J. Bennett . He was the New York State Commissioner of Standards and Purchase when New York Governor Herbert H. Lehman appointed him New York State Comptroller to fill the vacancy created by the death of Morris S. Tremaineoriginated. Tremaine died on October 12, 1941. O'Leary was appointed New York State Comptroller on October 17, 1941 on the condition that he would run for the Democrats and the American Labor Party in the November 1941 by-election for the post of Comptroller . On October 27, 1941, however, the New York Court of Appeals ruled that this by-election should not be held. As a result, O'Leary held the post until the end of 1942. In his candidacy in November 1942, he suffered a defeat to the Republican Frank Charles Moore . O'Leary was a founding member of the Liberal Party of New York and its Secretary in 1958. He died at the Beth Israel Medical Center .
