Hamilton Fish IV

Hamilton Fish IV (born June 3, 1926 in Washington, DC , † July 23, 1996 there ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1969 and 1995 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Hamilton Fish IV graduated from Kent School in Connecticut . He served in the United States Naval Reserve between 1944 and 1946 . In 1949 he graduated from Harvard College with a Bachelor of Arts . He was Vice Consul in Ireland for the United States Foreign Service between 1951 and 1953 . After returning to the United States, he studied law at the New York University School of Law, where he received his Bachelor of Laws in 1957 . Then he attended the John F. Kennedy School of Public Administration . He was admitted to the bar in New York. In 1961 he was Attorney for the New York Assembly Judiciary Committee in Albany . Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the 1968 congressional election for the 91st Congress , Fish was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 28th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Joseph Y. Resnick on January 4, 1969 . He was re-elected once. In 1972 he ran for the 93rd Congress in the 25th constituency of New York . After a successful election, he succeeded Peter A. Peyser on January 4, 1973 . He was re-elected four times in a row. In the 1982 congressional elections for the 98th Congress he was elected to the US House of Representatives in the 21st constituency of New York, where he succeeded Robert García on January 4, 1983 . He was re-elected four times in a row. Fish ran for the 103rd Congress in the 19th constituency of New York in 1992 . After a successful election, he succeeded Eliot Engel on January 4, 1993 . Since he on a run again in 1994 renounced, he left after 3 January 1995 with the Congress of. During his convention, he attended the Republican National Convention in Dallas in 1984 as a delegate . The US House of Representatives appointed him twice as one of the impeachment leaders : in 1986 against Harry E. Claiborne , judge in the United States District Court for the District of Nevada , and in 1988 against Alcee Hastings , a judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida .

He died on July 23, 1996 in Washington DC and was then buried in the Cemetery of St. Philip's Church-in-the-Highlands in Garrison .
