Peter A. Quinn
Peter Anthony Quinn (born May 10, 1904 in New York City , † December 23, 1974 ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1945 and 1947 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Peter Anthony Quinn attended St. Brigid's and St. Raymond's School . He graduated from Manhattan Preparatory School in 1922, from Manhattan College in New York City in 1926, and from Fordham University's law school in New York City in 1929 . After receiving his license to practice law in 1931, he began practicing in New York City. Between 1936 and 1944 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .
In the 1944 congressional election for the 79th Congress , Quinn was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 26th constituency of New York , where he succeeded Hamilton Fish III on January 4, 1945 . He suffered in his renewed candidacy in 1946 a defeat and withdrew from the after January 3, 1947 Congress of.
After his time at Congress, he resumed his practice as a lawyer. On January 1, 1949, he became a judge in the Municipal Court of New York City . He was re-elected to judge in 1955. He became Chief Justice of the City Court of New York City in 1957 - a post he held until he resigned in 1960, after being elected judge on the New York Supreme Court for a fourteen-year term . He died on December 23, 1974 in the Bronx and was then on the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Hackensack ( New Jersey buried).
