Philip A. Goodwin

Philip Arnold Goodwin (born January 20, 1882 in Athens , New York , † June 6, 1937 in Coxsackie , New York) was an American politician . Between 1933 and 1937 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Philip Arnold Goodwin attended public schools. In 1896 the family moved to Coxsackie. He graduated from Coxsackie High School in 1900 and Albany Business College in 1902 . Between 1902 and 1916 he was in the steel bridge construction business in Albany . From 1916 until his death he owned and operated a lumber company in Coxsackie. He also went into banking, ran a milling and delivery company and a securities company.

Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . In the 1932 congressional elections for the 73rd Congress , Goodwin was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 27th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Harcourt J. Pratt on March 4, 1933 . He was re-elected twice in a row, but died shortly after the beginning of his last term on June 6, 1937 in Coxsackie. His body was then interred in Riverside Cemetery .
