Martin B. McKneally

Martin Boswell McKneally (born December 31, 1914 in Newburgh , New York , † June 14, 1992 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1969 and 1971 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Martin Boswell McKneally was born in Orange County about five months after the outbreak of World War I. He attended Newburgh public schools. He made his Bachelor of Arts in 1936 from Holy Cross College and his Bachelor of Laws in 1940 from Fordham University Law School. The following period was overshadowed by the Second World War . On March 17, 1941, he joined the US Army as a private . When he left, he held the rank of major . He then practiced as a lawyer in Newburgh and New York City . He served on the Education Committee in the Newburgh School District , where he held the post of President. Between 1956 and 1957 he was State Commander in the American Legion and between 1959 and 1960 National Commander . Governor Nelson Rockefeller appointed him to the New York State Defense Coucil . He was Special Counsel by the Lieutenant Governor of New York Malcolm Wilson . Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the 1968 congressional elections for the 91st Congress , McKneally was elected to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 27th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded John G. Dow on January 4, 1969 . He suffered a defeat when he ran again in 1970 and then resigned from Congress on January 3, 1971 .

After his time in Congress, he lived again in Newburgh until his death on June 14, 1992.
