Esbon Blackmar

Esbon Blackmar (born June 19, 1805 in Freehold , New York , † November 19, 1857 in Newark , New York) was an American politician . Between 1848 and 1849 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Esbon Blackmar was born in Greene County about seven years before the outbreak of the British-American War . He attended county schools and graduated from high school. Then he went about the usual commercial business. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1838 and 1841 . Politically, he was a member of the Whig Party . He was elected to the 30th Congress in a by-election in the 27th Congressional District of New York to fill the vacancy created by the death of John M. Holley . He took his seat in the US House of Representatives on 4 December 1848 but was eliminated on March 3rd, 1849 back from the Congress of. After his time at the Congress, he resumed his previous business activities. He died in Newark, Wayne County , about four years before the civil war broke out . His body was then interred in Willow Avenue Cemetery .
