Mark H. Sibley

Mark Hopkins Sibley (* 1796 in Great Barrington , Massachusetts , † September 8, 1852 in Canandaigua , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1837 and 1839 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Mark Hopkins Sibley completed his preparatory studies. He studied law . After receiving his license to practice law in 1814, he began practicing in Canandaigua. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1834 and 1835 . Politically, he was a member of the Whig Party . In the congressional elections of 1836 for the 25th Congress Sibley was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 26th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Francis Granger on March 4, 1837 . He retired from the after March 3, 1839 Congress of. In 1841 he was a member of the New York Senate . He was an Ontario County judge from 1847 to 1851 . After that he practiced as a lawyer again. He died in Canandaigua about four years after the end of the Mexican-American War . His body was then interred in West Avenue Cemetery .
