Charles Stephen Millington (born March 13, 1855 in Norway , New York , † October 25, 1913 in Herkimer , New York) was an American politician . Between 1909 and 1911 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Stephen Millington was born in Herkimer County about six years before the civil war broke out . He attended District Schools of Poland , the Fairfield Academy and the Hungerford Collegiate Institute . Then he worked for the Hungerford National Bank in Adams . He founded the Bank of Poland and became a cashier there. In 1894 he moved to Herkimer, where he continued to work in the banking business. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . In 1908 he took part as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in Chicago .

In the 1908 congressional elections for the 61st Congress , Millington was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 27th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded James S. Sherman on March 4, 1909 . He suffered a defeat in his renewed candidacy in 1910 and then left the Congress on March 3, 1911 .

After his time at the Congress, he resumed his previous banking activities in Herkimer. President William Howard Taft named him assistant federal treasurer in charge of the federal treasury in New York. He began his service on May 12, 1911 - a post he held until his death. He died on October 25, 1913 in Herkimer. His body was then interred in Pine Grove Cemetery in Poland.
