William M. Oliver

William Morrison Oliver (born October 15, 1792 in Londonderry , Rockingham County , New Hampshire , † July 21, 1863 in Penn Yan , Yates County , New York ) was an American lawyer, judge and politician from New York.

Career

Oliver was a judge ( English First Judge ) at Yates County Court . He held this position there from 1823 to 1828 and again from 1838 to 1844. He was also politically active during this time. He was from 1827 to 1830 a member of the New York Senate , where he represented the 7th District. In his last year there, in 1830, he was elected President pro Tempore . In this role he served as acting lieutenant governor under Governor Enos Throop until the end of the year. He was later elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democrat for the 27th District of New York , where he served from 1841 to 1843. He then worked as a clerk at the New York Supreme Court . He was also President of Yates County Bank from the moment it was founded until 1857.

After his death in 1863 he was buried in Lake View Cemetery in Penn Yan.
