Allen Carpenter Beach (born October 9, 1825 in Fairfield , Herkimer County , New York , †  October 17, 1918 in Rochester , New York) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Allen Carpenter Beach graduated from Union College in Schenectady in 1848 . He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1852.

After the Civil War he was elected Lieutenant Governor of New York and held this office between 1868 and 1872. Then he was in the years 1878 and 1879 as Secretary of State . He suffered a defeat in his re-election attempt in 1879.

He also took part in 1860 and 1876 as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions .

Allen Carpenter Beach was the son of Rev. Allen R. Beach (1797–1879) and Amy Brown Beach (1803 – ca. 1890). He was married twice, first to Abby A. Woodruff († 1856) and then to Olivia H. Pickering, daughter of Augustus Pickering and Caroline White. He and his second wife had a daughter named Amy.
