Robert Livingston Tillotson (* 1786 , † July 22, 1878 in Rhinebeck , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician .

Career

Robert Livingston Tillotson, son of Margaret Livingston and Thomas Tillotson , was born about three years after the end of the Revolutionary War . Nothing is known about his youth. At some point he studied law and was admitted to the bar. Tillotson was Secretary of State of New York from 1816 to 1817 . From 1819 to 1828 he held the post of United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York . During his tenure, the Norwegian sloop restoration was confiscated by port authorities after arriving in New York Harbor . Tillotson submitted the relevant documents to the United States District Court. The owner, Norwegian immigrants who got their ship after a pardon , which the President John Quincy Adams signed.
