Thomas Tillotson

Thomas Tillotson (* 1750 in Province of Maryland , † May 5, 1832 in Rhinebeck , New York ) was an American doctor and politician . Between 1797 and 1799 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Tillotson grew up during the British colonial era. He sat in the New York State Assembly in 1788, 1789 and 1790 , where he represented Dutchess County . Between 1791 and 1800 he was a member of the New York Senate . During this time he represented the Middle District . He was a member of a committee that had to decide on several formal errors in the gubernatorial election of 1792 . The decision was made in favor of George Clinton .

In the 1800 congressional elections , Tillotson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of New York , but resigned before the US House of Representatives met for its constituent session. Theodorus Bailey was then re-elected to the US House of Representatives on October 6, 1801 to fill the vacancy created by Tillotson's resignation.

Tillotson was Secretary of State between 1801 and 1806 and 1807 and 1808 . He died on May 5, 1832 in Rhinebeck and was buried there in the Rhinebeck Reformed Dutch Church . Tillotson was married to Margaret Livingston. The couple had four children together.
