David R. Floyd-Jones

David Richard Floyd-Jones (born April 6, 1813 in Massapequa , Oyster Bay (then Queens , now Nassau County ), Long Island , New York , † January 8, 1871 there ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ) .

Life

David Richard Floyd-Jones attended Christ Church Academy in Manhasset and then graduated from Union College in 1832 . He studied law at Schenectady , was admitted to the bar, and then began practicing in New York City in 1835 .

Floyd-Jones also had a political career. He represented Manhattan in the New York State Assembly between 1841 and 1843 . He then served in the New York Senate from 1844 to 1847 . He returned again in 1857 to the New York State Assembly, where he now represented Queens . Then he held the post of Secretary of State of New York from 1860 to 1861 . During the civil war that followed, he was elected lieutenant governor of New York, a position he held from 1863 to 1864.

David Richard Floyd-Jones was the son of Brigadier General Thomas Floyd-Jones (1788-1851) and Cornelia Haring Jones Floyd-Jones († 1839). He was married to Mary Louisa Stanton Floyd-Jones. The couple had seven children together. He was also related to Colonel DeLancey Floyd-Jones .
