Jeremiah Wood

Jeremiah Wood (September 1876 - January 16, 1962 in Hempstead , Nassau County , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Republican Party ).

Career

Jeremiah Wood studied law , was admitted to the bar in 1900, and then started practicing in New York City . He also had a political career. Wood was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1912 . He then took part in 1916 as a substitute delegate at the Republican National Convention .

In the 1920 gubernatorial election , he was elected Lieutenant Governor of New York as Running Mate of Nathan L. Miller , a position he held between 1921 and 1922. On September 26, 1922, Wood resigned from office to become a judge in the New York Administrative Court . There he filled the vacancy created by the resignation of William D. Cunningham.

Wood suffered a defeat on his run for the New York Supreme Court in 1925 . He then chaired the Nassau County Republican Committee between 1927 and 1929 .

He lived in North Lynbrook , New York, a parish he created when the village of Malverne was incorporated into Hempstead in 1921. Wood did not want to live in a place where he feared higher taxes . To avoid this, he changed the boundaries of the new town so that his home was not included.
