Edward F. Jones

Edward Franc Jones (born June 3, 1828 in Utica , Oneida County , New York , † August 14, 1913 in Binghamton , Broome County , New York) was an American officer, businessman, writer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Edward Jones Francesco attended school in Leicester ( Massachusetts ).

After the outbreak of the American Civil War , he enlisted in the Union Army . He fought in the 6th and 26th Massachusetts Regiment and most recently held the rank of Brevet - brigadier general . After the war he opened a company for the production of scales at Binghamton and was soon by its new advertising strategy widely known. He created the slogan "Jones pays the freight", which meant that he did not charge any costs for the delivery of his scales to the customer like his competitors.

Jones also had a political career. He was Lieutenant Governor of New York between 1886 and 1891 . Jones was in 1885 and 1888 as a running mate of Governor David B. Hill selected.

He died in Binghamton in 1913, his body was transferred to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he was buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery . His home at Binghamton, better known as Gen. Edward F. Jones House , was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

family

Edward Franc Jones was the son of Sophronia (Chapman) Jones and Lorenzo B. Jones. He was married twice, in 1850 he married Mary A. Tarbell of Pepperell , Massachusetts, after her death in 1862 he married Susan Annie Brown of Boston .
