John J. Ghezzi

John J. Ghezzi (born January 1, 1911 in Albany , New York , † May 9, 1983 ibid) was an American lawyer and politician .

Career

John J. Ghezzi’s childhood was overshadowed by the First World War . He attended the public schools in Albany. In 1928 he graduated from Albany High School. In the following years he attended Fordham University and Albany Law School . In 1933 he graduated from St. John's University School of Law . After graduating from the bar, he worked for Louis Yaguda's law firm. On March 13, 1942, he enlisted in the US Army . He was assigned to the 109th  Infantry Regiment in the 28th Infantry Division . In October 1945 he was honorably discharged with the rank of First Sergeant . During his tenure, he served 22 months in the European theater of war. In 1949 he entered the government service. In the following years he worked as Unemployment Insurance Referee and Attorney in the Corporations Division of the Department of State until his appointment as Director of the State Elections and Law Bureau in 1959 . He had been Assistant Secretary of State of New York in charge of the Division of Corporations since 1965 when he was named Secretary of State by New York Governor Malcolm Wilson in 1974 .
