Lewis Allaire Scott ( February 11, 1759 - March 17, 1798 ) was an American politician .

Career

Lewis Allaire Scott, son of Helena Rutgers and John Morin Scott , was born during the reign of King George II . His youth was overshadowed by the War of Independence . On January 18, 1785, he married Julianna Sitgreaves, sister of Congressman Samuel Sitgreaves . Her son was the mayor of Philadelphia ( Pennsylvania ) John Morin Scott (1789-1858). Lewis Allaire Scott became Secretary of State of New York in 1784 - a post he held until his death. He was buried at Trinity Church in New York City .
