Gail Shaffer

Gail S. Shaffer (born August 1, 1948 in North Blenheim , New York ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Nothing is known about Gail S. Shaffer's youth. She worked for a publishing company in the 1970s before embarking on a public career. She worked as a town supervisor for two years . She then held the post of Executive Director on the state's Rural Affairs Council. At that time, Vice-Governor Mario Cuomo was in charge .

She sat in the New York State Assembly in 1981 and 1982 . She was re-elected in November 1982, but did not take her seat in the 185th  New York State Legislature . Instead, she was appointed Secretary of State of New York by Mario Cuomo, who has now been elected governor . She took up her post on January 1, 1983.

Shaffer served as Secretary of State during Cuomo's three terms as Governor of New York through January 4, 1995. She was succeeded by Republican Alexander Treadwell . In 1986, Shaffer was considered a possible running mate by Cuomo for the post of Lieutenant Governor of New York. In 2004 she participated as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Boston ( Massachusetts part).
