Christoph Ludwig Agricola (born November 5, 1665 in Regensburg ; † August 8, 1724 there ) was a German landscape painter .

Life

Agricola spent a large part of his life traveling; he visited England , the Netherlands and France and was also in Naples for a long time .

His numerous landscape paintings depict nature with remarkable accuracy, and he mastered the depiction of the different seasons excellently. His motif design shows the influences of Nicolas Poussin , the precision of light and color choice can also be found in a similar form with Claude Lorrain . Most of his works were created in the so-called cabinet format, a small image format that was used in cabinets at the time .

His pictures are mainly kept in German, formerly princely picture galleries , including Braunschweig , Dessau , Dresden , Kassel , Schwerin , but can also be found in Breslau , Prague , Copenhagen , Venice , Florence and Naples.

His portrait, created in 1709 by the Venetian painter Rosalba Carriera , is lost today; it was reproduced in 1711 by the Augsburg copperplate engraver Bernhard Vogel (1683–1737) in a mezzotint sheet.
