The US Attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) is the chief US representative in federal criminal and civil proceedings in eight New York counties: King ( Manhattan ), Bronx , Westchester , Putnam , Rockland , Orange , Dutchess and Sullivan . The prosecution-led cases will be tried in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York .

structure

The public prosecutor's office is divided into sections for civil and criminal matters. It has two departments; one is in Manhattan and the other is in White Plains . The United States Attorney is assisted by approximately 220 Assistant United States Attorneys.

In 1814, what was then the District of New York was divided into the Northern and Southern Districts, and the following year the first US attorneys were appointed for the new districts.
