Ann Marie Buerkle (born May 8, 1951 in Auburn , New York ) is an American politician . From 2011 to 2013, she represented New York State in the US House of Representatives as a Republican .

Career

Ann Marie Colella, her maiden name, trained as a nurse after finishing school. In 1972 she graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Syracuse . As a result, she worked in her profession for many years. In 1994 she graduated from Syracuse University with a law degree . In the meantime she had also graduated from Le Moyne College in Syracuse in 1977 . Politically, she became a member of the Republican Party . In 1994 and 1995 she was a member of Syracuse City Council; from 1997 to 2010 she was Assistant Attorney General of New York State.

In the 2010 congressional election , Buerkle was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 25th  constituency of New York , where she succeeded the previously defeated Democrat Dan Maffei on January 3, 2011 . In the 2012 election , he stood again for his previous seat and won, so that Ann Marie Buerkle left her seat on January 3, 2013. In Congress she was a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee , the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and the Veterans Committee . In September 2011 she was appointed American delegate to the 66th  General Assembly of the United Nations .

After leaving the Congress, Buerkle was proposed for a high-paying position in the national consumer protection ( Consumer Product Safety Commission ) and confirmed by the Senate; However, she has let it be known that this will not mean the end of her political career and that she will not rule out a third encounter with Dan Maffei in the 2014 congressional election.

Ann Marie Buerkle is divorced and has six grown children.
